  1. Hello!
I am so excited to find your site! I’m hoping someone will be able to point me in the right direction.

I’m having difficulty finding much about my g-g-grandfather, John Snyder and / or his son, John H. Snyder who took over the business after his father passed.

    Here is what I know:

    John Snyder – b. 1803-1880
Undertaker; Alerman of 15th Ward Brooklyn (Williamsburg) – 1837
    Wife Eliza Varian 1803-1883

Information found states they were both buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn however; neither “Cypress Hills” location shows either listed.

Coffin manufacturing business on #422 and / or #409 Grand St. and line of livery stables on Powers St. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn 1843.
References found comment that he was “One of the oldest and most widely known establishment in the Eastern District” – 30 yrs in business.

Livery stables were #12-#16 on Powers street.

Also advertised for Carriages and Barouches for pleasure riding. Orders left at the store on E. VanWickel Esq promptly attended to…

I would really like to know more about him than this but am unable to find anything else – which is odd if he was so “well known”. Any photos would be a bonus!

    Thanks so much!

    Laura C.
